Dear BarCamp:

I've been attending and presenting at BarCampLA since its inception.  I'm stoked to see how BarCampLA has grown in popularity and diversity.  But the broader accessibility of this event has resulted in fewer and fewer deeply technical talks--less "mad science," if you will.

This is frustrating to the more highly technical BarCamp attendees.  We're the ones camped out in the corner huddled over beat up laptops, snarking about the event having been "taken over by social media".  But we bear a lot of the blame.  If we want BarCamp to feature more technical demos, we're going to need to step up and *bring more demos.*

In a rare flash of cooperative problem solving, we came up with a constructive way to turn the tables.  We're planning LA's first BAZCAMP, a "mad science only" version of BarCamp to be held two weeks prior to BarCamp.  We don't want to compete with BarCamp; rather we hope that BAZCAMP will help support BarCampLA by forcing us to complete our demos early, and improve our presentations through peer review.

And hey, building a working demo of anything takes at least twice as long as throwing together a slide deck about your blog. So we figure we should get to present our stuff twice.

BAZCAMP rips off the BarCamp concept wholesale. Like BarCamp, its a multi-track conference. You'll be fed, caffeinated, and hooked up to wifi.  You can give a 45 minute technical demo presentation on the topic of your choosing.

Like BarCamp, there will be no prior restraint on what you can present. But do understand that you'll meet with a strong social bias against "Web 3.0," and heckling from a bunch of ornery bastards.
